Principal's Message

Dr. Shelbi Blackmon brings 21 years of experience in education, including 19 years with Houston ISD, and she is proud to continue the great work happening at Lawson Middle School.
Before assuming the principal role at Lawson, Dr. Blackmon served as an assistant principal at Milby High School, where she supported both the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program and the English III and IV teams. She is also part of the inaugural cohort of the HISD Principal Academy—a program designed to build strong school leadership across the district.
Her background in education is wide-ranging. Over the years, she has served as a classroom teacher, STEM specialist, and instructional technologist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Sam Houston State University, a master’s in educational technology leadership from Lamar University, and a doctorate in executive educational leadership from Houston Baptist University.
Dr. Blackmon is a firm believer that student success starts with passionate educators who are willing to advocate, support, and show up for their students every day. At Lawson, she is dedicated to fostering strong relationships, promoting academic excellence, and cultivating a learning environment where both students and teachers thrive.
